Cornwall should be known for its good fresh food and locally farmed fresh vegetables. However, sadly, it is not. We have set out to break the mould of depressingly tedious processed foods served by the majority of hotels and restaurants.
We have been awarded an AA rosette every year that we have been here
We make our own soups and sauces, we make our own puddings and ice creams, we serve fresh vegetables and fresh coffee. We do not subscribe to the philosophy of "pile it high, and sell it cheap". We use local ingredients wherever possible. All our fish is local. The menu changes daily, with a limited choice, but a different menu every day.
There is a set soup to start. Recent examples have been Carrot & Coriander, Nettle, Chicken & Almond, Fish.
This is followed by a choice of two starters. Recent examples have been, Grapefruit Soufflé, Newquay Mussels with herb butter, Melon with grapes and ginger wine, Smoked Haddock Hotpot, Egg en Cocotte, Kipper Pate, Smoked Duck with a plum chutney, Venison Pate in pastry, Crab Parcels..
Then there is a choice of two main courses, one usually fish. Again examples are, Venison medallions with a redcurrent sauce, Salmon with Hollandaise, Chicken Breast with smoked bacon & stilton, Red Mullet with a chive sauce, Pork Fillet in a cider sauce, Lemon Sole with a saffron sauce, Duck Breast with orange & ginger, Grilled Skate with herb butter.
We are happy to serve vegetarian dishes or Salads if you let us know in advance.
And to finish there is a choice of three puddings or cheese. Recent puddings have been, Mascarpone Tart, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Strawberry Creme Fresh Brulee, Bread & Butter Pudding, Iced Ginger Meringue, Rich Chocolate Mousse with a praline cream, Pear Ice-cream (yes, we do make our own ice cream) in a brandy snap basket, Lemon Tart.
We believe that your evening meal is an important part of your holiday, and should be enjoyed.
In addition we have one of the finest wine lists in the country
